Overview

This course describes tasks that system administrators need to perform to fully utilise the more sophisticated Compaq Tru64 UNIX functionality, namely, the Advanced FileSystem (AdvFS), Logical Storage Manager (LSM), and Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks (RAID). Each of these tools can be extremely helpful in preserving the security and availability of information on the system. Each tool individually is a robust feature and when used in combination can be challenging to manage.

Learn How To

· Determine hardware and software needs for LSM, AdvFS, and RAID

· Install the software necessary to support LSM, AdvFS, and/or RAID

· Set up and manage the LSM, AdvFS, and RAID using the command line and graphical user interface

· Set up software and hardware mirroring and recover from disk failure

Compaq's employees and customers who have experience managing a UNIX environment, and require instruction in the following advanced system management topics in a Compaq Tru64 UNIX environment:

· Advanced File System (AdvFS)

· Logical Storage Manager (LSM)

· Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks (RAID)

Prerequisites

In order to successfully complete this course, the student should be able to:

· Install and manage a Compaq Tru64 UNIX system

· Install layered products and register license PAKs

· Manage traditional UNIX disk partitions

· Perform typical UNIX system management tasks such as backup and adding user accounts

· Use the Compaq Tru64 UNIX kernel configuration tools

· Troubleshoot the operating system and make adjustments to improve performance
